5. Vulfpeck - Thrill of the Arts

by Anna Hurley

They are probably the worst performers I've ever stood in a concert for, but damnit if Christmas in LA isn't the most catchy, funky, and deliriously fun bit of three minutes I've heard all year.

5. Tame Impala - Currents

by Eric R. Mortensen

That bass lick in The Less I Know, The Better is the hardest working bass lick in show business.

5. Tom Rosenthal - Bolu

by Jez Burrows

Warm and silly and tender and full of vim and vigor, pith and vinegar.

5. Ariel Pink - Pom Pom

by Maxwell Holyoke-Hirsch

A good summertime song. You can do anything at the nude beach a go a go.

5. Deerhunter - Fading Frontier

by Richard Perez

Nocturnal pop. Charming wasteland.

5. Darkside - Psychic Live

by Sasha Barr

Ok, so maybe this one isn’t an official album, but it’s a live DVD, so that counts, right? Darkside made some great beat driven ethereal guitar space out jams, and they really knew how to take it up a notch live. The live shows ended up being more dance party than their studio album, and I’m thankful I got to see them a couple times before they called it quits. I listen to Darkside more than the people around me probably want to hear it.

5. Mike Adams At His Honest Weight - The Best of Boiler Room Classics

by Tara McCullough

A gentle nod to the classics, but always fresh. Really perfect blend of past & present with these super quirky guys.

5. Cities Aviv - Your Discretion Is Trust

by Nate Utesch

Hip-hop as seen through some sort of mangled lens that harkens to both industrial and rhythm & blues records of the early 90s. And also doesn't.

5. Four Tet - Morning/Evening

by Jen DeRosa

Good for: Flying or self reflection.

5. Tobias Jesso Jr. - Goon

by Damien Correll

Super derivative, but super good. Nilsson vibes galore.
